THAURIA LATHYI
Thauria or the junglekings is a genus of butterflies in the family Nymphalidae.
The butterflies are large and brightly coloured on the dorsal surface. There is a transverse white stripe on the forewing and
one or two white apical spots. The hindwing has a broad yellow margin. The ventral wing surfaces are disruptively patterned and
look like dead leaves, allowing the butterflies to blend into leaf litter on the forest floor.
Cryptic ventral patterns have arisen multiple times in various forest-floor dwelling groups of Nymphalidae.SIAMENSIS The jungleking ranges from Manipur to southern Myanmar and Indochina. A related species, the tufted jungleking (Thauria aliris Fruhstorfer, 1902) occurs in Asia. Amathusiini is a tribe of the nymphalid butterfly subfamily Morphinae. They are large butterflies. They are sometimes treated as a distinct subfamily Amathusiinae or family Amathusiidae. The Morphinae are a subfamily of Nymphalidae butterflies that includes the morphos, the owl butterflies, and related lineages. It is either considered a sister group of the Satyrinae, or disassembled and included therein.
